🇦🇫 Firni is one of the most poplar desserts in the Afghan cuisine.
It’s a nice firm sweet custard with pistachio, that has it’s unique place at any major party in our culture.
It’s very easy and fast to prepare (15 minutes max) but it often goes wrong. So allow me to show you the right way to prepare this yummy dessert.
What do you need?
▪1 liter semi-skimmed milk (almond milk for vegans)
▪6 tbsp cornflour (not full spoon)
▪5 tbsp sugar (as you prefer +-)
▪0.5 tbsp cardamom
▪1 tbsp rose water
▪2 tbsp water (for dissolving the cornflour)
▪Some unsalted pistachios. I use afghan pistachios that are small but flavorful and are more fatty than the regular pistachio.
▪rose petals (as desired)
How to prepare?
Use a clean sauce pan
Add milk with sugar and corn mixture (dissolve the corn starch with cold water) and add the cardamom and stir it well.*
Afterwards put the pan on medium heat and continue to stir with a whisk
until the custard has thickened, then add the rose water
Keep stirring and it should be ready.
♡ 🍫 You can also make chocolate Firni
Mix 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder with a spoonful of water, add to firni and stir briefly. That’s it
Place the firni on plates or glass jars, wait 10 minutes, then sprinkle crushed pistachio nuts on it and and rose petals.
I recommend to store it in the fridge first for a few hours.
