Rice with lentils ( Adas Palaw) Super quick and easy & delicious 🇦🇫.
Great for a midweek meal when you don’t have much time.
-2 cups of basmati rice
-1 cup of lentils (green lentils)
-2 white onions or 2 tbs of homemade onion paste
-1 tbs of rice herbs mix*
-1 tbs tomate paste
-100 ml oil
-3 cups of water (for rice)
-3 stock cubes I like to use beef for the vegan use vegetable stock
Wash the rice and soak the rice for at least one hour in water (you can also reduce this time). Cook the lentils with 2 cup cold water for about 15 minutes on medium temperature until the lentils are soft, then add a stock cube.*
Have your wok pan ready. I like to cook the rice in a wokpan because it is much easier (trust me 😉).
Chop and fry the onions in the oil or heat up 2 tbs of my onion paste in the oil. Then add 2 cups of cold water in the pan with the rice, herbs and two stock cubes. The water needs to be topped until the first line of your finger.
Close the lid and let it simmer on medium heat. After 5 -10 minutes the water will be absorbed. Drain the lentils and add them to the rice. Mix 1 tbs tomato paste with 1 cup of water. Then pour the mixture over the rice and stir. Close the lid for about 15 minutes and use a flame devider (zerdiegi) during to avoid burning.
Instead of green lentils you can also use mungbeans which will make Mash Palauw. Also easy and delicious.
Serve with your own curry sauce. I served it with okra and pickles . Enjoy 😊👩🍳💚
Try it out and let me know how you like it.🤗
* Never add salt to the legumes before they get soft.
